Back on Track

It was announced earlier that the Friends of Australiana Pioneer Village were to be the major recipient of the profits of this year’s show. At a recent meeting between representatives of both organisations it was agreed that the donation should be directed to a specific project. The nominated project was the restoration of the railway. The train was a popular attraction in the past and restoration to operation would be a welcome event.

This is a large project that will require a lot of time and money but it is hoped that the show will get the project off to a great start. We are excited to be involved.

The Friends of the Village will have a stand at the show and will be able to answer any questions you may have on the village and the railway. There some photos of the Village including an aerial show showing the railway here. (Unfortunately the building used as the station is mislabelled as Kurrajong Railway Station when it is in fact the former Kurrajong Goods shed.)

2011 Blokes Day

Part of the HMHS display at Blokes Day

Our HMHS stand at Blokes Day was a great success. We set up in the hall and had some great displays that attracted much attention. The stands only gave a small preview of what will be at the show but they still generated much interest for us.

We handed out several hundred flyers over the day. A couple of our exhibitors also had stands there and they took some flyers to distribute too.  We also made contact with some potential exhibitors for this and next year’s show. There was also a request for us to do a display at an event later in the year. We will look into it after the show.

Thank you to all our members who helped by contributing to the displays or giving us a hand on the day.

This Year’s Exhibits

There are several new displays comings to this year’s show. There will be displays of Scout’s Badges as well as Railway Fettler’s Trikes.

This year’s show will have more model railways than any previous shows too. Many have not appeared at Hawkesbury before and at least one will be making its debut there.

A full list of all exhibits that have booked so far is on the 2011 Exhibitors Page. It was updated only a couple of days ago. Remember that there is still time to book if you would like to be involved. Applications close at the end of April. Any applications received after that will only be considered if there is space or a cancellation.

Supporting the Community

Each year the profits from the show are donated to the local community. Over the years donations have been made to St John’s Ambulance, Hawkesbury Rural Fire Service, CF NSW and Hawkesbury Hospital Auxiliary. Each year one worthwhile cause is selected as the major recipient. They will receive the majority of the available funds with the balance shared between other groups.

This year the major recipient will be the Friends of Australiana Pioneer Village. The village is being resurrected after being closed for 10 years. It is recognised as an important heritage site as all the buildings there are original structures from the local area.

The Hawkesbury Model & Hobby Show is pleased to be working with the Village and to help in a small way the preservation of such an important place.

Celebrate Australia Day

The perfect way to celebrate Australia Day this year is to join the Hawkesbury community at Australiana Pioneer Village. This is the first time the village has been open to the public for 10 years and it is a welcome return.

The village is being returned to its former glory by a dedicated team of volunteers and this will be your opportunity to view the village and show your support for the volunteers. There will be stalls, displays and demonstrations a plenty. HMHS will have an information stand, hopefully including some displays.

Entry is $5 for adults and $3 for children, there is free parking on site and is open 9 – 5. You can download a flyer here - download flyer (309k).
